Great Location with easy access to trains

We were very happy with our choice of hotel in Kyoto – modern design right about the railway. A quiet, spacious room with everything that you need included. The view over the railway station was ordinary but if you positioned 1 of the 2 comfortable chairs at the window, you can look above the station across to the green hills of Kyoto. We loved the ease of access to the trains and we had a day trip to Nara – a 40 min trip (on fast train). It’s close to other interesting places such as Gion, where we went to stroll along the lane-ways and dine in restaurants. At first I was surprised by cost of entry to hotel pool & gym but when I checked it out, I saw that it was a very luxurious pool (nice 30 deg temp).  We were also impressed with the helpful concierge; he organised an excellent seat for us at the Geisha tea ceremony and dance. Something worth attending if you’re in Kyoto in Spring-it is such a popular thing for the Japanese to do, especially the women who dress in their finest…some in traditional costume. A bit like going to the ballet at our Opera House but with a much longer tradition! So many shops above, below, near the hotel…something for most budgets-we liked the range of food on offer! Nice breakfast at hotel but we saved our $s for lunch & dinner so had a simple breakfast at Deli France (near Starbucks). Being at the station made ease of access to return train journey to Narita airport a breeze (tip-take “green” car if you have large suitcases).
